What connecting Hex unlocks

Warehouse answers in chat

Query your data warehouse through Hex and get real numbers back in conversation. No SQL editor, no CSV exports, no tab switching.

Notebook results on demand

Run notebooks and pull their results into any chat. The analysis your data team already built becomes something the whole team can ask about.

Creative and copy grounded in real numbers

Ads, landing pages, and Copy Chief reviews can cite actual performance data instead of guesses. Real metrics make sharper hooks and honest claims.

Better media-buying calls

Check your own warehouse numbers before you shift budget. Decisions built on first-party data beat decisions built on platform dashboards alone.

How to connect

1Open Connectors and choose Hex

In StefanBrain, open Connectors, find Hex, and click Connect.

2Get your API key

Copy the key from your Hex account or developer settings. Use a key from the account whose data you want StefanBrain to reach.

3Enter your credentials in the dialog

Paste the API key into the connect dialog and confirm. Credentials are encrypted in transit and at rest.

4Ask your first question

Try asking for the latest results from a notebook your team runs, or for a number you usually pull from the warehouse by hand.

Good to know

  • StefanBrain can only reach what your API key can reach. Access follows the permissions of the Hex account that issued the key.
  • If you rotate or revoke the key in Hex, the connection stops working. Reconnect in StefanBrain with the new key to restore access.

Your credentials stay yours

  • We never store your passwords
  • Encrypted at rest and in transit
  • Disconnect anytime

Frequently asked questions

What can StefanBrain read from Hex?

Hex gives StefanBrain a path to your notebooks and your data warehouse queries. Ask for the numbers behind a report and the answer comes from the source. Access stays limited to what your API key is allowed to see.

Where do I find my Hex API key?

It comes from your Hex account or developer settings. Paste it into the connect dialog when StefanBrain asks, and it is stored encrypted from that point on.

Can StefanBrain change anything in Hex?

Write actions across StefanBrain are classified separately from reads and gated by tool permissions you control. Most teams connect Hex for read-side analysis. Nothing changes without access you explicitly granted.

How is this different from Metabase?

Both are BI connectors. Metabase pulls answers from your dashboards and reports, while Hex runs notebooks and queries your data warehouse. Connect the one your team actually uses; connecting both is fine too.

Can I disconnect later?

Yes, one click in Connectors removes the connection and its stored credential. For a full stop, also revoke the API key from your Hex account so it cannot be used anywhere.
