Connect StefanBrain to Hotjar API
Connect Hotjar's API and let StefanBrain read your surveys and every response, with tags and sentiment, so your customers' own words feed your angles, objections, and copy.
What connecting Hotjar API unlocks
Every survey in one place
List a site's surveys with their type, status, and questions, including feedback buttons, which Hotjar now runs as surveys.
Responses with context
Read answers newest first, with each comment, tag, and sentiment, plus the country, device, and page they came from.
Scores explained
Pull NPS, rating, and open-text answers together so StefanBrain can sum up what drives a score up or down.
Customer words for your copy
Use the exact phrases your visitors write as raw material for hooks, objections, and landing page copy.
Tools your chats can call
A sample of the Hotjar API tools StefanBrain can use once connected. Reads and writes are classified separately, and you control both.

How to connect
1Generate API credentials in Hotjar
A Hotjar admin opens Settings, then API. Pick the Organization, a credential name, and the scope, then click Generate credentials.
2Find your Site ID
On Hotjar's Sites & Organizations page, copy the site's number, listed under your organization. Copy the Organization ID too if you plan to use user lookup.
3Open Connectors and choose Hotjar API
In StefanBrain, open Connectors, find Hotjar API, and click Connect.
4Paste and connect
Paste the Client ID, Client Secret, and Site ID, plus the Organization ID if you have it. StefanBrain checks them with Hotjar, then connects.
Good to know
- Survey responses need Hotjar Ask Scale, or Contentsquare Pro or Enterprise. Observe Scale covers only user lookup and deletion.
- Hotjar API keys expire after one year and can't be extended. Generate new ones before then, and reconnect.
- Responses always come newest first. Hotjar's API has no date filter, so StefanBrain pages back with a cursor.
- Reading responses asks you first, because they can hold people's emails and free text.
- User lookup and deletion start switched off. Lookup emails a data report to your organization's default recipient, and to the person when their email is given. Deletion erases their data for good.
Your credentials stay yours
- We never store your passwords
- Encrypted at rest and in transit
- Disconnect anytime
Frequently asked questions
What can StefanBrain read with the Hotjar API connector?
Your surveys, their questions, and every response, with tags and sentiment. Once you switch them on, it can also send a user lookup or deletion request.
Which plans include the Hotjar API?
Survey responses need Hotjar Ask Scale. On Contentsquare, the Responses API comes with Pro and Enterprise, not Free or Growth.
Where do I find my Site ID?
On Hotjar's Sites & Organizations page, under your organization. It is numbers only, and a pasted Hotjar link with the site in it works too.
Can StefanBrain read my heatmaps or recordings?
No. Hotjar's API covers surveys and user lookup only. A response can carry a link to its recording, which you open in Hotjar.
How is this different from the Hotjar card?
The Hotjar card signs in to Contentsquare for funnels, journeys, page metrics, and errors. Hotjar API reads your surveys, which that card cannot.
How do I disconnect?
One click in Connectors removes the credentials from StefanBrain. To cut access fully, delete the credentials on Hotjar's API page.
