How to connect

1Create a custom app in Shopify admin

In Shopify, open Settings, then Apps and sales channels, then Develop apps. Create an app for StefanBrain and install it.

2Grant the scopes you want StefanBrain to use

On the app's API credentials tab, grant read scopes for products, orders, customers, and discounts. Add write scopes only if you want StefanBrain to make changes.

3Copy the Admin API access token

Shopify shows the token, which starts with shpat_, exactly once after install. Copy it right away.

4Paste your store name and token in StefanBrain

Open Connectors, choose Shopify, and enter your store name and the token. Pasting the full myshopify.com URL is fine; we trim it for you.

Good to know

Shopify uses custom app credentials instead of a shared OAuth app, so your store's access is scoped to exactly the permissions you grant.
StefanBrain validates the credentials with a live probe before saving, so a typo fails immediately instead of breaking later.
The token is shown once by Shopify. If you lose it, rotate it from the custom app's API credentials tab and reconnect.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Shopify need a custom app instead of a sign-in button?

Shopify scopes Admin API access per app, per store. A custom app keeps you in control: you decide exactly which scopes StefanBrain gets, and you can revoke them in Shopify at any time.

Which scopes should I grant?

Start with read access to products, orders, customers, and discounts. Add write scopes later if you want StefanBrain to create discounts or update records for you.

Is my Admin API token safe?

Credentials are encrypted in transit and at rest, and StefanBrain never stores your Shopify password. Disconnecting removes access, and you can also uninstall the custom app in Shopify.

Can StefanBrain change my store without asking?

No. Write actions are classified separately from reads, and tool permissions let you require approval or block writes entirely.

Does this work with multiple stores?

Yes. Connect each store as its own connection with its own custom app token, and pick the right store when you ask questions.
